What Treatment Costs for Clients from South Africa
R 60 000 per month, or R 150 000 for the recommended three-month programme, plus R 2 000 per month for services and outings. No hidden add-ons and no pressure on the phone.
Families deserve a clear number before they make a decision this serious. For clients from South Africa, residential treatment at Hillhouse Clinics costs R 60 000 per month. The recommended three-month programme is R 150 000 in total, which is meaningfully less than paying three separate monthly fees.
On top of the programme fee there is one additional item: R 2 000 per month for services and outings. That covers the outings we organise for our clients and the laundry service. Everything else clinical and residential is already inside the monthly fee.
- R 60 000 for one month of residential treatment
- R 150 000 for the recommended three-month programme
- R 2 000 per month for services and outings, charged in addition
- Accommodation, meals and 24-hour care included
- Medical detox included where clinically indicated
- Individual therapy, group therapy and psychiatric review included
- Family programme and twelve months of aftercare included
What the monthly fee covers
The monthly fee covers accommodation in a small residence, all meals, nursing care around the clock, medically supervised detox where it is clinically indicated, psychiatric assessment and review, daily individual psychotherapy, group and trauma therapy, the family programme and twelve months of aftercare and alumni support after discharge.
Not included: the R 2 000 monthly services and outings charge described below, flights and travel, any medication dispensed outside the programme, specialist hospital care or investigations elsewhere, and personal expenses.
What "services and outings" means
This is R 2 000 per month, added to the programme fee. It covers the outings we organise for our clients โ day trips, nature walks and supervised time out of the house that are part of rebuilding a normal routine โ and the laundry service during the stay.
It is a flat monthly amount, so a family knows the full figure before admission rather than receiving extras later.
Why three months is the recommendation
One month makes a person safe, clear and hopeful. Three months is where the underlying work is done and the new routine is lived long enough to survive contact with ordinary life again.
That is why the three-month programme is priced at R 150 000 rather than three separate monthly fees. A three-month stay therefore comes to R 150 000 in programme fees plus R 6 000 in services and outings. If a longer stay is clinically advisable, further months continue at the monthly rate.
Medical aid, payment and what you actually owe
Substance-use disorder is a Prescribed Minimum Benefit condition, so many registered schemes fund part of a residential admission. Where your scheme authorises treatment, its benefit reduces what the family pays; the amount you personally owe depends on your plan and its co-payment. We confirm that figure with you before admission, so nobody signs up blind.
Where cover is limited or declined, we tell you honestly and discuss the remaining options confidentially. Payment of the balance is made by the client or their family, and where a family needs to split payment across the treatment period we agree that arrangement in writing beforehand.
