Drug Rehab in Cape Town for Clients from Botswana

Clinically led residential treatment for substance use, a short flight from Gaborone, with detox, psychiatry and therapy under one roof.

Substance use in Botswana has changed sharply in recent years. Crystal methamphetamine, codeine-based cough mixtures, cannabis and heavy alcohol use now reach families across every income group, while the country has only a handful of residential treatment beds and long waits for state care.

Hillhouse Clinics offers an alternative that is clinically serious rather than simply removing someone from their environment. Our team includes psychiatrists, addiction physicians, psychotherapists and trauma specialists, and every client has individual therapy every day rather than group work alone.

    • Medical detox on site, supervised by nursing staff around the clock
    • Treatment for methamphetamine, cocaine, opioids, codeine syrups and cannabis
    • Psychiatric assessment for depression, anxiety, PTSD and bipolar disorder
    • Small residences, not a large institutional ward
    • BWP 100 000 per month, BWP 250 000 for three months
    • Airport collection and full arrival coordination

    Detox and stabilisation

Withdrawal from alcohol, benzodiazepines and opioids can be medically dangerous and should never be attempted alone at home. Detox at Hillhouse takes place on site with medical supervision, symptom-based medication and daily review, typically over five to ten days depending on the substance and the person's health.

Stimulant withdrawal, including from crystal meth, is less physically dangerous but psychologically brutal: exhaustion, cravings and severe low mood. That phase is managed clinically, with sleep, nutrition and psychiatric support rather than willpower.

    The therapeutic programme

Once stable, clients follow Primary Care or Integrated Care according to their clinical needs. Both treatment paths take place at The Hillhouse, combining individual psychotherapy, trauma-focused work, process groups, the 12-step framework, relapse prevention and physical recovery.

When clinically ready, clients may move to The Re-entry House to rebuild everyday life with structure and continued support. Integrated Care is a treatment path at The Hillhouse, not a separate residence or the re-entry phase. Discharge is a planned handover into aftercare, not a goodbye at the gate.

Aftercare when you return to Botswana

Returning home is the point where treatment is usually won or lost. Before discharge we build a written relapse-prevention plan with the client and their family, identify meetings and clinicians available locally, and stay in contact through online alumni sessions for twelve months.

Where a family prefers a longer stay before returning, extending beyond three months is possible and is arranged at the same monthly rate.

    Frequently asked questions

    How long should treatment last?+

We recommend three months. Shorter admissions stabilise a person, but three months is where most clients consolidate change and hold it after discharge.

Do you treat crystal meth addiction?+

Yes. Methamphetamine dependence is one of the most common presentations we treat, with psychiatric support for the mood and psychotic symptoms that often accompany it.

    Is the detox medically supervised?+

Yes, on site, with nursing care around the clock and daily medical review.

What happens if someone refuses to go?+

Call our admissions team. We advise families on how to approach the conversation and can guide a structured intervention where appropriate.
