Alcohol Detox and Rehab for Zimbabwean Clients
Medically supervised withdrawal followed by real therapeutic work โ because detox alone almost never holds.
Alcohol is the most socially accepted dependence and therefore the easiest to postpone treating. Families usually call us after years of managing around it: the missed mornings, the hidden bottles, the promises made sincerely and broken again by evening.
Hillhouse Clinics provides medically supervised alcohol withdrawal on site, followed by a residential programme that treats what sits underneath the drinking. Primary Care: approximately USD 1,504.80 per week for eight weeks in Cape Town. Re-entry: approximately USD 1,128.60 per week for four weeks near Harare. Full 12-week programme: approximately USD 16,552.80, all-inclusive with no additional programme costs.
- Medically supervised detox with 24-hour nursing care
- Daily individual psychotherapy, not only group sessions
- Trauma-focused therapy where drinking has a history behind it
- Psychiatric review for depression, anxiety and sleep
- Family programme, with remote sessions for relatives in Zimbabwe
- Twelve months of aftercare and alumni support
Why alcohol withdrawal needs medical care
Stopping heavy, sustained drinking without supervision can cause seizures and delirium tremens, both of which can be fatal. Detox at Hillhouse is managed with symptom-based medication, hydration, nutritional support and daily medical review, usually over five to seven days.
Nobody is asked to prove anything by suffering. The purpose of detox is to get a person physically safe and clear enough to begin the therapeutic work.
Treating what sits underneath
Detox removes alcohol from the body; it does not change why a person drinks. Our programme works through trauma, grief, anxiety, shame and the beliefs that keep the cycle running, using individual psychotherapy, trauma-focused methods, process groups and the 12-step framework.
Clients also rebuild the physical foundations recovery depends on: sleep, nutrition, exercise and routine, in a quiet setting in the Cape Winelands.
Family and returning home
Alcohol dependence reshapes a whole household. The family programme gives relatives their own space to be honest, understand the illness and learn what support actually looks like once their person comes home.
Before discharge we agree a written relapse-prevention plan, identify support available in Zimbabwe, and continue online alumni contact for a year.

Frequently asked questions
Is alcohol detox dangerous?+
Unsupervised withdrawal after heavy, sustained drinking can cause seizures and delirium tremens, which can be fatal. That is why detox here is medically supervised with nursing care around the clock.
How long does the whole programme take?+
Detox is typically five to seven days. Primary Care: approximately USD 1,504.80 per week for eight weeks in Cape Town. Re-entry: approximately USD 1,128.60 per week for four weeks near Harare. Full 12-week programme: approximately USD 16,552.80, all-inclusive with no additional programme costs.
What if the person has tried rehab before?+
Many of our clients have. We look closely at what was missing last time, usually individual therapy, trauma work or aftercare, and build the plan around that.
Can someone be admitted quickly?+
Yes. There is no waiting list and admission is usually possible within 24 to 48 hours of an assessment call.
